Provides an overview of the principles and practices related to the cause, prevention, and control of disease. Emphasis will be placed upon understanding the occurrence and distribution of disease, risk factors for disease, and how to gauge and track incidence and prevalence disease rates. Candidates will be introduced to the major causes of morbidity and the behavioral and environmental contributions to illness and injury. Strategies for risk reduction and the development and implementation of interventions will be presented.

By the conclusion of the course, each participant will be able to do the following:

Candidates will participate in weekly discussions about topics related to various body system diseases and disorders. Topics will address prevention education, treatment and other related aspects of disease education.

Immune System Lesson
Candidates will develop a two-day lesson plan associated with the immune system. Lesson development will surround the body’s natural defense mechanisms as well as modern science influences for prevention of disease.

Candidates will develop a visual illustrating the association of healthy lifestyle choices and decreased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Academic Support Services
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) located in Room L214 in the Library (815-740-5060) offers various types of academic services. Online and distance learning students can contact ARC for appropriate resources. ARC serves students who need tutoring in many areas of study including writing and math.
