This course provides elementary, middle level and high school educators with the knowledge to integrate the teaching of math with economic and/or personal finance content. Candidates will learn content-specific vocabulary necessary to introduce students to economic and personal finance concepts with an emphasis upon financial literacy and cost - benefit analysis.

By the conclusion of the course, each participant will be able to do the following:

  1. Examine and evaluate a variety of mathematics skills and strategies to enhance the teaching of economics and financial literacy curriculum. (IPTS 1.1, 1.7, 2.2, 3.4, 4.6, 6.2, 6.7)
  2. Create and utilize engaging, learner-centered strategies to help students’ master math skills relevant to Economics and Financial Literacy Standards. (IPTS 1.3, 1.7, 2.2, 3.5, 4.4, 6.1, 6.7, 7.7)
  3. Disseminate Economics and Financial Literacy content and related math strategies to stakeholders. (IPTS 6.4, 9.1, 9.2, 9.6, 10.2)

Final Project --- Lesson Plan

Using a specialized Lesson Plan Template or a comparable format, candidates will design learning opportunities employing mathematics skills and economics/financial literacy skills.
