Description

Evolving research supports that the social emotional competence of teachers and students significantly influences classroom climate and learning.  Concurrent research related to mindfulness suggests numerous social emotional, cognitive, and physiological benefits to those who engage in routine mindfulness activities.  These benefits include improved social emotional regulation, reduced anxiety, greater ability to manage stress, increased ability to focus and recall, and a host of positive physiological metrics. This course explores the meaning of mindfulness and the relationship between social emotional competence and mindfulness.  Participants will receive tools to evaluate their own wellbeing and self-care, establish personal mindfulness practices, as well as examine research-based classroom practices and activities intended to promote social emotional competence.  All of these tools lead to a more engaged, productive, and peaceful learning community.
