Assessing and Improving Student Achievement with Technology

In this course, candidates will utilize technological tools to create and use formative and summative assessments.  In addition, candidates will examine efficient ways to obtain meaningful student data.  Candidates will demonstrate how technology can strengthen the assessment process through examining data in a timely manner to improve instructional and student achievement.

The mission of the College of Education is to prepare competent and caring educators who understand students, serve the community and develop professionally to become ethical decision-makers and leaders.

Understanding Students

Candidates will develop skills to extend their understanding of assessment to include alternative forms of assessment using technology.  This knowledge will allow teachers to support student learning by consciously connecting formative assessment to changes in instruction, and summative assessment to assessing mastery learning.

Serving the Community

Candidates will have opportunities to explore the value of student data collection and the appropriate means by which to share data results with stakeholders. Candidates will develop skills for collaboration with other teachers in order to assess student data for larger settings, such as a school and/or district.

Finding Our Professional Selves

Candidates will continue to develop a comprehensive, professional e-portfolio to house artifacts as a means to showcase professional growth and expertise. Additionally, candidates will analyze and reflect on artifacts that they discover or create themselves within the course.

Candidates will manipulate data through spreadsheets and pivot tables as they reflect upon the impact the tools can have on data-driven decisions.

Candidates will create an infographic to compare two tech-based assessment tools.

Student Self-Assessment Plan - Goal Setting Sheet - Reflection Activity

Create an Online Rubric for Scoring a Tech-based Project

Candidates will create an online rubric that properly assesses specific objectives within a technology-based project, along with a reflection.

Assessment Capstone Project

Candidates will design a unit through the lens of assessment.

Students should use the MyUSF portal as the first resource for guidance and support on items such as student complaints, safety, security and transportation questions, contact information for various USF departments, student support services such as counseling and academic resources.
